The Canoe River Aquifer Advisory Committee formed in February 1987, after several years of discussion with the water superintendents of Easton, Norton, and Mansfield regarding the protection of the aquifer that supplied a good portion of water to each community.  The Town of Foxborough joined in May 1987. The Town of Sharon joined the Committee in May of 1988.

On October 22, 1987, the State Legislature approved the Legislative Act establishing the Canoe River Aquifer Advisory Committee filed by Representative William Vernon which has been regarded as a model for the entire State.  The legislation was amended in May of 1988 when the Town of Sharon voted to join our Committee.
